Welcome to the Start of September Sales Efforts

September 2nd and it’s back to school for students everywhere. Some will approach their new routine with excitement and enthusiasm; others with a bit more trepidation and it will take them a bit longer to “get with the program.”

For me, the start of school feels like New Year. I get all sorts of excited about the opportunities that lie ahead and see the last few months before the end of the year as packed with possibilities and potential.

Consider this: these are the last few months of the year that you (ME!) can put forth the effort to make our sales numbers soar. Sitting back now means that by the time December rolls around you might be staring at a depressing income to expense statement and without much more time to do anything about it.

But now…in September…there’s still time to make things happen. Here are a few quick tips to send your sales soaring:

  1. Hit the phones, get out from behind your computer to connect and get up close and personal with your prospects and clients. Don’t expect that your status update on Facebook is going to do it for you. It’s not that easy! Schedule in-person and telephone appointments and be ready to present your value proposition!
  2. Develop a new or special offer to jump start sales activity. There’s nothing more enticing than a well-planned and well-executed special offer that has REAL value.
  3. Mine the gold in your existing database. When was the last time you reached out to dormant accounts or prospects that came very close to doing business with you but could not pull the trigger? Heck, maybe they are ready now!
  4. ASK for referrals. Yes, ask for them because rarely will referrals come your way without some work on your part. Make this a standard part of your sales strategy.
  5. Be a better networker.  Be strategic and a giver and participate enough so that you see some return on time.

And like I said, it’s September and so the best time to start is right now before it is simply too late to have an impact on 2014. So, who wants to have a meeting with me?!
